Some CBMR Numbers Up, Some CBMR Numbers Down

When compared to last year (and the epic "Snowpocalypse" storm), numbers may look down. But the snowfall brought droves of people and created an unusual year for visitation to the resort.

CBMR is still up in lodging revenue over last year, but down in overall skier days, implying that season passholders are using the resort less than last year.

Dr. Robin Bingham, an evolutionary ecologist at Western State Colorado University, was awarded a $75,000 grant from the US Fish & Wildlife Service to study the rare plant known as the skiff milkvetch.

Senator Gardner's (R-CO) Reaction to White House Rescinding Cole Memo

Earlier this month, US Attorney General Jeff Sessions announce the White House would no longer follow the Obama-era policy of allowing states to set and enforce their own marijuana rules and regulations.

Over a dozen dispensaries operate in Gunnison County along with large-scale grow operations.

Senator Cory Gardner reacted by threatening to block Department of Justice nominees until this decision is reversed.

Tourism Association Talks Strategies for 2018

KBUT spoke with Gunnison-Crested Butte Tourism Association Director John Norton about strategies the organization will use to attract clientele to the area in 2018. The idea is to focus on areas where the Gunnison Valley has a competitive advantage over other resort towns in Colorado.

Norton says the main areas the TA will zone in on are steep skiing and mountain biking. He also says that recent years have been spent solidifying Crested Butte's place as a mountain bike mecca, and now efforts can be put towards flyfishing.
