Western's Football Camp Part Clinic in the Finer Points of the Game
July 9, 2018

Every summer hundreds of teenage boys descend on the campus of Gunnison's Western State Colorado University from all over Colorado and neighboring states. They have one thought in mind: to play football. It's Western’s summer football camp, run by head coach Jas Bains. The camp is part clinic in the finer points of the game and part team bonding experience. Though researchers continue to find troubling links between long term health effects and playing football at a young age, others say the sport remains among the safest for adolescents, due to improved protective equipment and training.

That unresolved debate does little to dampen the enthusiasm of players who give up precious summer days to travel to Gunnison. They simply love the game. KBUT’s Alan Wartes reports.
