KBUT’s next board meetring will be held on Monday, March 13 at 6:00pm at the KBUT studios at 508 Maroon Ave. Crested Butte, CO 81224. For more information contact KBUT General Manager, Julia Brazell at 970-349-5225 or Julia@KBUT.org. 

The Board of Directors meets every other month and usually schedules meetings on the second Monday of that month at 6:00pm. Dates are subject to change.

Board Members

The KBUT Board of Directors is comprised of nine volunteer members. Their duties include hiring and evaluating the general manager, developing and implementing a long-range strategic plan outlining the goals and objectives of the station, fundraising and fiscal accountability. Terms are for three years. Members are elected by the membership at the Annual Members’ Meeting held every year. The board holds a regular meeting every other month, and meetings are open to the public.

Nancy Wicks, President

Nancy Wicks moved to the Gunnison Valley in 1992. For several years she has strived to live “sustainably” at the base of Round Mountain. In 2002, Nancy established Round Mountain Institute to promote sustainable living, alternative building and organic gardening through education programs. Through this non-profit endeavor, Nancy learned a lot about what a board member’s responsibilities entail. Now Nancy is excited to be a part of the KBUT Board of Directors. KBUT is like Nancy’s roommate out on the farm! Nancy is so ready to give back to her community by helping KBUT grow and thrive. 

Carlos Velado, Vice-President

Carlos Velado has been a DJ and supporter of KBUT since 2000. His life as a KBUT DJ began shortly after he moved to the valley as the host of the Midnight Creeper Show. He decided to run for the Board of Directors in order to give more to the station that he believes is one of the best in the world. He is currently the Community Development Director for the Town of Mt Crested Butte.

Jen Greene, Secretary

 Jen Greene has lived in Crested Butte for 18 years. She has 3 boys and  owns Paradox Footwear in Crested Butte. Jen  served on the board at Stepping Stones for several years and enjoyed the time she was on that board.  Jen  loves KBUT and all of the entertainment and services it offers our community and is honored to be a part of its continued success.  

Bud Bush, Treasurer

Bud is an avid music fan, musician and DJ at KBUT.  He and his wife, Nancy moved permanently to Crested Butte in 2015 after their kids left the nest.  As a strong advocate for local, independent community radio, Bud joined the KBUT Board to support the success and sustainability of a vital and entertaining resource to the Gunnison valley.  He is also a real estate broker, a long time member of Rotary and he spends as much as time possible outside riding, hiking and skiing.

Marcus Lock

Marcus has been an avid listener of public radio for most of his life. Marcus realizes how fortunate we are to have KBUT in our community. Marcus depends on KBUT to satiate his eclectic taste in all things music, news, and entertainment.
As the managing member of Law of the Rockies, Marcus practices law in a wide range of areas. Marucs uses his knowledge and experience as an attorney to further the interests of KBUT and help protect this valuable community asset. When Marcus is not in the office, he is usually spending time with his wife and five kids in this gigantic playground we all call home.   

Kirsten Atkins

Kirsten first came to Crested Butte in 1987. KBUT has been a part of her Crested Butte experience for as long as she can remember. She enjoys listening to KBUT and turns to KBUT community radio for news and information, often streaming KBUT when she is away from home. Kirsten is eager to give back to this great organization. She strives to make sure that our community radio station continues to be an amazing and valuable resource to our valley.

Holly Harmon

Holly enjoys living and working in Crested Butte and has been a lover of KBUT since she moved to Crested Butte in 2008. When she isn’t working at The Trailhead Children’s Museum you can find her spending time with her family, playing outside, frequenting the local library and coffee shops, geeking out on news and social media, and of course enjoying music. She is happy to volunteer for an organization that is so vital to our community, bringing music, news and community together in profound ways.

Sarah Oktay

Sarah Oktay, PhD, Currently the Director of Institutional Advancement at the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab in Gothic.
Sarah Oktay arrived at RMBL in January of 2016 to become the new Director of Institutional Advancement after spending 25 years at sea level conducting research, teaching, fundraising, and communicating with the public. She has a B.S. in Marine Science and a Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography from Texas A&M University in Galveston. From 2003-2016 she has been the Executive Director of the UMass Boston Nantucket Field Station which is a biological field station located 26 miles off the coast of Massachusetts. She is a chemical oceanographer by training with a doctorate from Texas A&M University in Galveston. She is an invited member of the Society of Women’s Geographers, a former President and Vice President of the Nantucket Civic League, the Co-Captain of the Nantucket Clean Team, former chair of the Nantucket Harbor Plan Implementation Committee and the Nantucket Coastal Management Plan and harbor and fishery management plans for Nantucket. She believes strongly in bridging the gap between scientists, policy makers, and the public to aid communities and effect change.
She has received a regional Conservation Award from the Garden Club and an international award for an inner city STEM program in Massachusetts featuring place based research from the Organization of Biological Field Stations, of which she was president of from 2014-2016, presiding over several hundred field stations across the globe. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Massachusetts Senate recognized Sarah for her service to the community of Nantucket and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in January of 2016.
For eight years she wrote a weekly column for a Nantucket paper called Yesterdays’ Island describing scientific issues and the natural world. Her nine years of service on the Nantucket Conservation Commission has been featured in Vanity Fair, Yankee Magazine, Cape Cod Times, ABC.com and many other news organizations.  She is currently partnering with Water Defense, a nonprofit started by actor Mark Ruffalo, to test water safety and pollution concentrations across the country. She is also on the board of Sustainable Crested Butte. She lives with her husband in Spring Creek (Almont CO).
 

Andris Zobs

Andris currently lives in the Town of Crested Butte, with his wife Dana and son Jonah.  He moved to the Gunnison Valley in 1999 he was visiting friends and decided to stay.  He had little interest in skiing, but did fall in love with what seemed to him to be an intentional community of people in-tune with their environment and each other.
He has an undergraduate degree in political science and a Master Degree of Architecture.  After splitting time between architectural fabrication and maritime archeology, he committed himself to working exclusively in the Gunnison Valley.  Since then, he has worked extensively in the environmental non-profit world, as staff, program director, executive director and board member.  He has also served on BOZAR, the Housing Foundation Board, and the Gunnison Carbon Policy Task Force.
He is an owner and principle at ID Sculpture, where he designs and manufactures custom playground equipment. As COO, he takes an active role in financial management, capital investment, business development and design.

5-Year Strategic Plan

The KBUT Board of Directors has recently finalized a five year strategic plan (2012-2017), providing a vision for continued growth & success in serving our community. All future goals are developed keeping our Mission Statement in mind: "KBUT Community Radio exists to enrich and unify the Gunnison Valley through information, entertainment and community involvement."
