Standing Rock: A Report From CB Protestors

    Crested Butte residents called in from the front lines of the Standing Rock Reservation protests of the North Dakota Access Pipeline. They say the atmosphere is very tense and that protesters are constantly in fear of intervention from the authorities.

    They say things "got real" when they were asked to write their attorney's name and phone number on their arms in markers.  This was to ensure they had a contact for legal counsel in case they were arrested and their belongings were confiscated.

    Huge Salmon Egg Take At Roaring Judy Hatchery

    Salmon numbers may be improving. This year, over 12 million kokanee salmon eggs have been collected at the hatchery. Last year, that number was just over 2 million. This statistic shows the salmon population may be increasing in Blue Mesa Reservoir.

    "Ballot Selfie Ban" Law Challenged

    The original law - now referred to as the "ballot selfie ban" - was designed in 1891 to work against voter fraud by making it illegal to sell a vote. The original idea was to ban cameras in voter booths. The eas of information sharing associated with modern technology has created a need to re-think this law, and one senator is challenging it.


    Special Meeting Called To Address Controversial Short-Term Regs

    The meeting will be held on Monday, November 14th at 6 PM. Three items on the short-term rental regulation draft ordinance were controversial and raised the need for deeper discussion. Those items are possible caps on the number of short-term licenses, the transfer-ability of the licenses, and whether or not the units need an identifying plaque on the exterior.

    KBUT's Chad Reich sits down with Timberlin Henderson of the Native American Student Council at Western State. Listen and learn about Timberlin's journey from the Navajo Reservation in Northeast Arizona to student life at Western.     CB Council OK's $100K for Mary Yelenick Park Redesign

    The design firm Bishop Mundy presented their plans to re-design the park to the Crested Butte Town Council in mid-October.

    The playground must be moved to accommodate the new Center For The Arts building.  The $100K would be used to compete for a matching grant from Great Outdoors Colorado.  


    Slate River Cleanup Draws 100 Volunteers

    A bunch of garbage, doo doo, and strange finds marked a successful day of cleaning up the Slate River Valley last weekend.

    Sue Navy helped organize the event, and she is still elated by the turnout for last weekend's volunteer workday.  


    Drug Take Back Program This Saturday

    This Saturday, October 22nd, is National Drug Take Back Day, which works to keep prescription and over-the-counter drugs out of the wrong hands and from seeping into the water and soils.


    Gunnison Country Times County Commissioner Forum 10.6.16

    Gunnison County Commissioners took to the debate stage in the 2nd of 3 this past Thursday at Western State. Incumbent Democrat Jonathan Houck is being challenged by Independent Paul Wayne Foreman in District 2, and Republican Brad Tutor is challenging Democrat John Messner in District 1.
