KBUT Seeks an Underwriting Director

KBUT Community Radio is seeking a year-round Underwriting Director. Primary job duty is to sell underwriting sponsorships of KBUT programs to Gunnison Valley businesses and organizations. The Underwriting Director maintains all underwriting accounts, including billing and entering accounts into QuickBooks. Computer skills and experience with QuickBooks is desired. Sales experience preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Reliable transportation is necessary. Salary is commission based, flexible hours. Job Description

Nature of Work: 
Represents KBUT to the Gunnison Valley. Must be familiar with and enthusiastic about community radio and KBUT in order to promote KBUT to underwriters. Responsible for contacting and building relationships with the business community and organizations of Gunnison County in order to sell on-air program underwriting.

Essential Underwriting Duties:
  • Sells all underwriting- including soliciting new accounts and renewing contracts in Crested Butte, Mt. Crested Butte, Gunnison, Almont & beyond.
  • Maintains all underwriting cash and trade accounts including the following:
    •   Enters all accounts into KBUT’s QuickBooks system
    •   Maintains a paper file of all accounts including contacts, contracts & account history
    •   Schedules underwriters into KBUT’s program logs
    •   Administers billing- completed and mailed during the first week of each month
    •   Administers receiving- during the last week of each month
    •   Keeps in personal or telephone contact with all accounts at least monthly
    •   Administers underwriting recognition- sends occasional thank you letters and premiums
    • Composes underwriting messages in accordance with FCC regulations
  • Knowledge of all FCC regulations concerning underwriting
  • Works with the General Manager to develop plans for increased sales and to review underwriting pricing structures, handouts and options on at least an annual basis

Knowledge, Skills, and Assets:
  • Ability to work independently
  • Reliable transportation- requires personal visits to businesses and organizations throughout the county
  • Computer skills- particularly MS Word and QuickBooks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Outgoing personality
  • Public radio and/or nonprofit experience a plus

Compensation: 12 percent on cash accounts and 10 percent on trade accounts.
Reports To:   General Manager
Status:    Part-time employee, no benefits.
