June 22, 2013 - The Word talks about bikes and a preview of CB Bike Week, set to kick off this coming Wedneday.

June 15, 2013 - This week we take a look at workforce and affordable housing. First, Chad Reich speaks with Julie Robinson of Habitat For Humanity about the Gunnison Valley chapter's latest projects. We also check in with "Sound of the High Country" - a collaboration between sister station KDNK (Carbondale) and High Country News as they see how one community balances the need for workforce housing with environmental protection.

June 8, 2013 - The West Elk Word talks with Michael Brody of the CB Film Festival about events this summer leading up to the Film Fest in late September.

May 25, 2013 - The Word talks with Matthew Kuehlhorn, director at GCSAPP, about substance abuse among youth, and what the project is doing to help kids make healthy choices.

May 18, 2013 - This week we're talking about whitewater recreation. Chris Menges has joined the staff at American Whitewater and will be conducting a survey to discover ideal river flows for water-based recreation in the Gunnison Basin throughout the season.

May 11, 2013 - We talk with Professor Tim Wawrzyniec, assistant professor of geology at Western State Colorado University. Western State plays host to the Rocky Mountain Section of the Geological Society of America conference from May 15 - 20.

April 27, 2013 - This week on the West Elk Word: Jackson Melnick talks about his Colorado Sings project & we get you ready for upcoming Wellness Fair.


April 20, 2013 - This week The Word talks with Crested Butte Mayor Aaron Huckstep about Amendment 64 and what it means for the legalization of recreational marijuana in the Town of Crested Butte. 


March 30, 2013 - The West Elk Word talks with Zane Kessler of Carbondale-based Thompson Divide Coalition, who is working to protect forest areas just west of Carbondale from oil and gas development. Music Director Grant McFarren also takes a look at the latest effort from The Strokes titled "Comedown Machine."

March 23, 2013 - We speak with local author Richard Melnick about his book "Parents Who Don't Do Dishes." It's about parenting, life, and cooking (recipes included!).

March 16, 2013 - We talk with Amaryllis Kelly in this re-broadcast of our conversation with the Gunnison-Hinsdale Confidential Advocacy Center.

March 2, 2013 - The West Elk Word features The Public Policy Forums' Winter speaker Dr. Trita Parsi. Dr. Parsi is an award-winning author of "A Roll of the Dice, Obama's Diplomacy With Iran." Dr. Parsi is the founder and president of the National Iranian American Council and is an expert on US-Iranian relations, Iranian politics, and Middle - East Politics.

February 23, 2013 - This week on the West Elk Word, we join a program from sister-station KRCC (Colorado Springs) called "Western Skies." Reporters Andrea Chalfin and Bente Birkelend look at the statewide issue of fracking with guests from both sides of the debate.

February 9, 2013 - The West Elk Word talks with Joan Grant. She works with the Department of Human Services in Gunnison and Hinsdale Counties. Today we talk about the foster parent program.

January 26, 2013 - The West Elk Word talks with Tina McGuinness, Executive Director of Gunnison Country Partners, a youth mentoring service for Hinsdale and Gunnison Counties. January is National Mentoring Month.
