Great KBUT Boondoggle

Boondoggle 3.0?

KBUT's on-air trivia contest and scavenger hunt, known as the Great Boondoggle, is currently on hiatus. Stay tuned to KBUT while we reboot for Boondoggle 3.0 sometime in the future...

Check out the custom Boondoggle website for past results and ongoing information.

What is a Boondoggle?

BOONDOGGLE, (bo?on?dô?g?l): A boondoggle is a project that objectively wastes time and money, yet is often continued due to extraneous policy motivations.

Think On-Air Scavenger Hunt/Trivia Contest. Form your team, tune into KBUT, and get ready to spend the day exploring Crested Butte and beyond. Teams look for clues and answer trivia questions throughout the day and the winning team wins fame and fortune. Computers, iphones, friends, and books are encouraged to help teams find the answers. Are you smart enough to claim the Great KBUT Boondoggle Trophy?

When: Saturday, November 10th from 10am to 4pm

Where: All over the upper Gunnison valley, but mainly on KBUT’s airwaves

Why:
1. to provide an interactive community-wide experience
2. raise money for KBUT Community Radio
3. to have fun and win $500!

Who: hopefully everybody

Questions or ideas? Email boondoggle@kbut.org!

Teams:

Local businesses will sign up to sponsor teams at $100 per team. Owners do not have to participate in the Boondoggle, but just put the money up and leave the rest up to interested players. There is no limit to the number of teams, nor number of people on each team. As a business commits to sponsoring a team (and thus getting their name read an almost infinite amount of times on the radio that day) KBUT will have team sign up sheets in our offices at 508 Maroon.

The Contest:

Any and all interested players will meet at KBUT at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th. At 10 a.m. the first trivia question is read on the air, posted on this site and texted to players with a time limit. (e.g. “QUESTION 1; How many PO boxes are there in the CB Elk Ave post office? You have 10 minutes to text and submit on this website the correct answer.) We then tally the correct answer and keep a running total of team scores. Each team that answers correctly receives the points for that question; harder questions are worth more points. Some questions will be google-able, but with a quicker deadline or less points. There will be a mix of stay-at-home trivia and so-called “action questions” like the example above.

Questions can be answered via text message, or submitted via this website.

There is also the possibility of having a few questions where teams have to bring something to KBUT physically (like a pound of human hair?) The sky’s the limit!

After Party:

After the Boondoggle is over, we’ll have a party where the cash prize will be awarded!
