Enjoy an evening of literature, laughter, and love of the West! This event is free and open to the public.

Jana Richman writes about issues that threaten to destroy the essence of the West. Her latest novel, The Ordinary Truth, incorporates the current and controversial Las Vegas water pipeline into a multi-generational tale of love and loss. Her novel, The Last Cowgirl, won the 2009 Willa Award for Contemporary Fiction. She lives in Escalante, Utah, with her husband, writer and transpersonal therapist Steve Defa.

Barbara K. Richardson has renovated four houses, enjoyed Argentine tango, fallen in love with tai chi, helped can the West’s finest plum jam, adored conifers, and planted thousands of trees and shrubs for others. In Tributary, she claims the land of her Mormon ancestors who settled the northern Salt Lake Valley. Richardson earned an MFA in poetry from Eastern Washington University. Barbara writes and designs landscapes in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies.

Torrey House Press, based in Torrey and Salt Lake City, Utah, is an independent publisher of fiction and literary nonfiction. Torrey House titles range from historical to contemporary to futuristic, incorporating cultures both pioneering and ancient, and utilizing language as rich and varied as the landscape itself. A passion for place drives THP and its authors, and this passion manifests itself strongly in the striking prose and unexpected plots of each Torrey House title.

By providing readers with good books, Torrey House seeks to increase appreciation for natural landscapes and foster awareness of many often-overlooked environmental concerns. Two percent of Torrey House sales are donated to not-for-profit environmental organizations supporting conservation in the West, home to so many of our nation’s public lands. Donations also fund a scholarship available to up-and-coming writers at western colleges.
