Peter Bridges will share the highlights of the life of Donn Piatt, who knew a raft of Presidents, including Lincoln and Grant, and who was famous across the country for lambasting corruption in high places. Peter’s new biography of an anti-slavery Ohioan follows on his biography of John Moncure Daniel, a racist from Virginia.
Bridges is a retired American ambassador who served as a career U.S. Foreign Service officer from 1957 to 1986, with postings to Panama, Washington, Moscow, Prague, Rome, and finally Mogadishu, where he served as American Ambassador to Somalia from 1984 to 1986. In his retirement he continues to write and lecture and recently joined the WSCU MFA in Poetry Advisory Board.
Peter’s presentation is FREE and open to the public. Copies of Donn Piatt: Gadfly of the Gilded Age will be available for sale after the event and are also for sale at Townie Books in Crested Butte. Peter will sign copies of his book.
