The Purlitzer Prize Finalist play "Becky Shaw," written by Gina Gionfriddo and directed by Dr. Karin Waidley, is the kick-off for Western State Colorado University's theater season.
"It remains sharp and funny to the end, and presents its characters with the irony and wit of a latter-day Jane Austen," states a Daily Telegraph review.
Through witty and dynamic conversations, the five characters present a story about sex, money, family dynamics, and a tragic twist of suicide. The question as to what we owe each other—family, lovers, strangers—looms over these characters like a tangible yet elusive weight, a persistent itch that can’t be scratched. The dark humor navigates the audiences in a coil of problems that never get fully resolved, yet still make this production suspenseful and thoroughly entertaining.
The opening performance on Thursday, Oct. 25 will be a Preview Pay-What-You-Can Performance. Tickets for all other shows cost $5 for WSCU students and $10 for faculty/staff/general admission. Tickets will be sold in advance at the WSCU Bookstore or a half an hour before the performance in the Studio Theatre lobby. For advance ticket reservations or more information, contact Peak Productions at (970)-943-3013 orpeak@western.edu. This show has adult language and content and may not be appropriate for minors.
