Module Programs on KBUT

To enhance your listening experience, KBUT airs a series of nationally and locally produced short programs.  These segments provide information, commentary and humor and come from various sources.  KBUT is proud to provide the following offerings:

  Word for the  Wise --
Weekdays - 10:00 am

Word for the Wise is a two-minute radio show written and produced by Kathleen Taylor of WAMC, the National Public Radio affiliate in Albany, New York. The program explores one of America's favorite topics: the English language. How much language can you cover in two minutes? You'll be surprised.

Kathleen tells you fascinating, true stories about words (have you heard about the day baseball stopped the presses so that the term "designated hitter" could make it into the new dictionary?), and she debunks language myths (no, there is no evidence that the word "posh" originated as an acronym for "port out, starboard home," the supposed rule for selecting premier cabins on cruise ships).

Merriam-Webster editors help keep Kathleen on her toes, assisting her with research and offering her access to their wealth of resources and expertise.  Visit the "Word for the Wise: Website

   Earth and Sky --
Weekdays - 9:00 am

Our radio series is heard 9 million times in English, every day around the world. Since 1991, Earth & Sky has worked with thousands of scientists to produce more than 5,000 radio spots on night sky astronomy, and on sustainability needs and strategies for the 21st century.

Science is not perfect. It’s a process, not a body of facts. History tells us that some of today’s scientific “truths” will inevitably turn out to be wrong, or only partially true.

Still, science leads to profound insights about the natural world that are as true as anything can be here at the beginning of the 21st century.

Earth & Sky tries to build a bridge between scientists and you.

Earth & Sky is a joint project of Earth & Sky, Inc. and EarthSky Communications, Inc.

   Isla Earth --
Tues & Thurs - 2:00 pm

Isla Earth is an engaging science based radio series exploring issues of local, national, and global importance to your listeners. Our goal is to increase ecological awareness, deepen understanding, and encourage environmentally sustainable choices.

  Jim Hightower --
Weekdays - 7:50 am

National radio commentator, writer, public speaker, and author of "Thieves In High Places: They've Stolen Our Country And It's Time to Take It Back," Jim Hightower has spent three decades battling the Powers That Be on behalf of the Powers That Ought To Be - consumers, working families, environmentalists, small businesses, and just-plain-folks.

Hightower is a modern-day Johnny Appleseed, spreading the message of progressive populism all across the American grassroots.

He broadcasts daily radio commentaries that are carried on more than 100 commercial and public stations, on the web, on Armed Forces Radio, Radio for Peace International, One World Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio.

   Cool Stuff, Cool People --
Wednesdays  & Saturdays - 11:00 am & 7:00 pm

Crested Butte's very own writer, poet and philosopher, Eric Ross, has been bringing his thoughts on life, people and the absurdity of it all to the KBUT airwaves since the summer of 2007.
