Programs

KBUT’s diverse programming includes music and entertainment, as well as news and information. KBUT fundamentally serves the Gunnison Valley community- be it locals or those reside beyond county lines yet have strong ties to the area.

Over 80 local volunteer DJ’s program a diverse mix of music including jazz, blues, rock, reggae, folk and bluegrass. KBUT actively supports local musicians and independent artists and promotes the performances of local arts organizations, such as the Center for the Arts, Crested Butte Music Festival and the Gunnison Arts Center.

KBUT broadcasts and webcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is the most reliable source for timely information about local weather, arts and culture, political issues, recreation, the environment and emergency information. At KBUT we believe that local programming greatly contributes to the well being of our community. Local news and information programming is crucial to increasing public awareness and understanding of local issues.

KBUT provides locally produced news, sports and public affairs programs through partnerships with the Crested Butte News and Gunnison Country Times. In the summer KBUT collaborates with the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab to produce and air “Nature Notes.” In the winter KBUT partners with the Crested Butte Avalanche Center to provide daily avalanche reports with local weather forecasts. KBUT is also the most reliable source for emergency information about road and school closures, wildfires and floods. Listeners depend on KBUT to provide the Ski Report in the winter, the Trail Report in the summer and the year-round Entertainment Calendar. Listeners rely on KBUT’s Lost & Found announcements to help reunite them with their cell phones, keys and bikes. KBUT’s Ride Line helps listeners find transportation from Boston to Berkeley. And KBUT’s Pet Patrol gets wayward dogs and cats back to their owners.

A selection of nationally syndicated programming rounds out KBUT’s broadcast. Through affiliation with National Public Radio (NPR), Public Radio International (PRI), Pacifica and American Public Media, KBUT provides a vital link to national and international news and information. Trusted and reliable programs such as “Morning Edition” and the BBC’s “World News Service” help to create an informed public- challenged and enlightened by a deeper understanding of ideas and events.
