Show Description:
Contemporary and traditional Hawaiian music, plus colorful anecdotes and fun facts about the islands.

What bands could a listener expect to hear on the show?
Hapa, Ka'au Crater Boys, Kapala, Henry Kapono, Keali'i Reichel, Na Leo, Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, Mailani, Justin Young, Bruddah Waltah, Uncle Willie K., Opihi Pickers, Jeff Peterson, John Cruz, Led Ka'apana, The Makaha Sons, Dennis Kamakahi, Waipuna, The Barefoot Natives, Sunday Manoa, Kolohe Kai, Jake Shimabukuro, Herb Ohta Jr. Pure Heart, Don Ho, and many more. Oh-- and of course, the man, the myth, the legend: Braddah Iz-- Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

What bands will a listener NEVER hear on the show?
I hesitate to say never, but if they're not from Hawaii, or don't have a direct affiliation with the islands, I'll not likely play them.

If you had a band what would you name it?
Kapakahi. That's Hawaiian pidgin for FUBAR.

If you could see any band, anywhere, who would you see and where?
I'd love to hang out at The Willows in Honolulu on a night when Herb Ohta Jr. and Jon Yamasato are playing.

How long have you been a DJ?
Full time since 2012, but I was a fill in regularly before that, and news director for five years before leaving the valley for Hawaii, so the microphone and I go back a-ways. Now, I'm back in the valley, sharing my love of Hawaiian music.

What do you do when you're not at KBUT?
I'm a full-time lecturer at Western and advisor to "Top O' the World" student newspaper. I'm also Vice President of the Gunnison Arts Council Board of Directors, co-founder of the Headwaters Poetry Festival and general mountain bum. Oh-- and I play ukulele.  Badly.

Hometown?
I consider Gunnison and Hilo my hometowns, but I was born and raised in Salem, Oregon.
