KBUT Community Radio exists to enrich and unify the Gunnison Valley through information, entertainment and community involvement.

Value Statement

KBUT Community Radio provides a non-commercial medium to our listening population and business partners that respects and strengthens the diverse fabric of our community.
KBUT is a community radio station serving Gunnison County, Colorado. We distinguish ourselves from commercial stations through a commitment to community participation, support and control. KBUT is licensed to Crested Butte Mountain Educational Radio, Inc., an IRS designated 501(c)(3).Broadcasting since 1986, KBUT serves the Gunnison Valley through diverse on-air programs, volunteer opportunities open to all community members, and ongoing support for the area’s nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. Community radio is a significant facilitator of democratic ideals and civic participation and is an invaluable community resource, particularly for a rural and remote area such as Gunnison County.

KBUT is deeply connected to the Gunnison Valley community- we know the people, the issues and the history. KBUT broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is the most reliable source for timely information about local news, weather, arts and culture, political issues, recreation, the environment and emergency information.

KBUT strives to represent the diversity of lifestyles and attitudes found in Gunnison County. Over 80 volunteer DJ’s program a diverse mix of music including jazz, blues, rock and bluegrass. KBUT actively supports local musicians and independent artists and promotes the performances of local arts organizations, such as the Center for the Arts, Crested Butte Music Festival and the Gunnison Arts Center.

KBUT also provides a vital link to national and international news and information through affiliation with National Public Radio, Pacifica and Public Radio International. Trusted and reliable programs such as NPR’s “All Things Considered” help to create an informed public — one challenged and invigorated by a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures.

KBUT can be heard at 90.3 FM in Crested Butte, 88.7 FM in Gunnison and 94.9 FM in Almont.

KBUT Community Radio is pleased to announce the hiring of Julia Brazell as the station’s next General Manager. 
Brazell is a Crested Butte native who returned to her hometown a year ago to work at KBUT.
